THINGS TO DO
Tickhill Castle was built following the invasion of William the Conqueror and the ruins that remain are impressive with a Norman gatehouse and the foundations from the 11th century structure. The town also has a duck pond in the middle that is popular, a small cricket club and there are a number of open spaces for walks. Nearby there is the Warren Golf Course, Yorkshire Wildlife Park and the Dome.

There are a number of options for food and drink in Tickhill. Wellington's Cafe & Bistro is well regarded, The Taj Cottage and Roccos Italian Kitchen are popular and there is also Zara's and The Millstone. Pubs in the area include Royal Oak, Scarborough Arms, Travellers Rest and The Carpenters Arms.

Along the high street there are a number of traditional shops that serve the small town. These include a car dealership, charity shops, a pharmacy, Taylors of Tickhill supermarket, a florist, an opticians, fishmongers, butchers, toy shop and builders yard. Meadowhall in Sheffield and the Lakeside Village in Doncaster are fairly close for bigger shopping.

Tickhill Estfield and St Mary's Church of England are the two primary schools in the area. The closest for secondary education are Serlby Park Academy, Maltby Academy and Sir Thomas Wharton Community College.
TRANSPORT LINKS
Off the A631, A60 and A1(M), Tickhill has wonderful transport links that make for easy access to Doncaster eight miles away as well as Rotherham and Sheffield, which are around half an hour away. Conisbrough and Doncaster are home to the closest railway stations and Robin Hood Airport is little more than a quarter of an hour in the car.
HISTORY
First noted in the 12th century as Tikehill, the most notable part of this town's history is Tickhill Castle, which was built shortly after the Norman Invasion of England when the lands were give to Roger de Busli. Around this the area grew and through the Middle Ages, Tickhill was an important town in South Yorkshire. By the 16th century castles declined in importance, and so did Tickhill, but today it is a small but busy town outside Doncaster.
