THINGS TO DO
The Hayfield Lakes are perfect areas for fishing and have been used for national events in the past. Each August the 'Auckley Show' takes place from Friday through Sunday with various competitions and stalls around a large marquee. Nearby attractions include the excellent Yorkshire Wildlife Park and the Warren Golf Course.
EATING & DRINKING
The Eagle & Child Inn is the local pub and offers both drinking and dining. Neighbouring Branton is home to The Three Horse Shoes, which is part of the Sizzling chain. There is a Chinese - Oriental Chinese - and a fish and chip shop - Auckley Friery - in the village.
SHOPPING
Buckley is home to a hairdressers, pharmacy and a Spar shop. Doncaster is nearby for larger shopping and the Lakeside Village Outlet is popular in the area.
SCHOOLS
There are two schools in the catchment area: Auckley Junior and Infant School and The Hayfield (Secondary) School. The latter is known as one of the best schools in Doncaster.
TRANSPORT LINKS
Five minutes from the M18 and just 15 minutes to the centre of Doncaster, Auckley is well placed for getting around the local area. From the village you can get buses to FInningley, Haxey, Epworth and Doncaster with the latter being home to a railway station. Robin Hood Airport is a couple of miles away.
HISTORY
Noted in the Domesday Book, Auckley has a long history. In the 1870s it was a township in Finningley with a population of 309. It was in the 1960s that housing developments began to be constructed and today it is mainly a dormitory village with around 2,500 residents.
