HISTORY
Fulford was home to the last great Viking victory on English soil. In 1066, as William the Conqueror prepared his invasion, Harold Hardrada came to claim the English throne and won at the Battle of Fulford. This forced the English King Harold Godwinson to march his troops up North to defeat the Vikings at the Battle of Stamford Bridge before marching them all the way back down to the fateful Battle of Hastings. By 1823 population was just 182 - although there were five public houses - and today it is growing towards 3,000 with a mix of old world and new developments.
