Sitting on the eastern banks of the River Ouse, it is a green and scenic part of the world with schools and an active community perfect for you and your family.

The Fulford Community Sports Club offers a place for the young and old to get fit and have a bit of fun. The Club offers many services including access to tennis courts, cricket equipment and football leagues. More sport can be found at the Fulford Golf Club which celebrated its centenary in a 2006. Further to this, the annual Fulford Show runs every August and provides an opportunity for residents and visitors to take part in a range of competitions on the Village Green.

The Bay Horse and the Plough Inn are both warm and friendly pubs that offer great food and drink while the village cafe in St Oswald Church has homemade cakes. Langtons Brasserie is popular for evening meals and the nearby outlet has a number of eateries to choose from.

Being only 2 miles from the centre of York, you will never be far away from all the city has to offer. Although even closer than that is York Designer Outlet which lies just outside the village. • Fulford School (a comprehensive secondary school)

Follow Fulford’s Main Street northwards and you will reach York in no time and if you follow it south you can take the A19 towards the M62 or join the ring road and be heading out of the area in a matter of minutes. Buses run very regularly into the city and a cycle path exists which leads to the Millennium Bridge across the River Ouse and in to the South of York.

Fulford was home to the last great Viking victory on English soil. In 1066, as William the Conqueror prepared his invasion, Harold Hardrada came to claim the English throne and won at the Battle of Fulford. This forced the English King Harold Godwinson to march his troops up North to defeat the Vikings at the Battle of Stamford Bridge before marching them all the way back down to the fateful Battle of Hastings. By 1823 population was just 182 - although there were five public houses - and today it is growing towards 3,000 with a mix of old world and new developments.

Former England manager Steve McClaren was born in Fulford.
