A picturesque village close to Selby and the A19, Wistow has a range of properties to suit every need and an active community. Popular with families and young professionals, it is a quiet area with a primary school and easy access to Leeds and York.

THINGS TO DO

The open space next to Jubilee Hall is popular with walkers, as is Skipwith Common in the nearby village of Skipwith. Selby has a beautiful abbey that's worth a visit and, of course, the cities of Leeds and York are close for shopping and family days out. There is a youth club, tennis club and parent toddler group in the village, too.

EATING & DRINKING

Wistow has the Fish Shop for the classic takeaway. Also in the village is the Black Swann which is popular for food and drink. Nearby Cawood has the Jolly Sailor Inn and the Castle Inn while more international fare can be found in Riccall with the choose of Italian or Asian, as well as the diverse Selby town centre.

SHOPPING

Just 10 minutes from Selby, this is your best place to do some shopping. There you will find a Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsbury's and more for grocery shopping. It also has high street brands and Leeds and York also have great shopping and outlet villages.

SCHOOLS

Wistow Primary School is in the village and Selby High School, Barlby High School and Brayton High School are within a few miles.

TRANSPORT LINKS

Within three miles of Selby, it is perfectly placed for workers in the town. It is also only 40 minutes from both Leeds and York, with Selby the closest train station and Leeds Bradford International Airport is just an hour from Wistow.

HISTORY

Given its name by the Vikings between 800 and 900 AD, it was originally called Wykestow and in 1216 Archbishop Gray of York began to give money to the area. This is likely to be when the All Saints' Church was built but there are no clear records. Today it is mainly used as a dormitory village for Selby and city professionals.
