Selby golf course is just outside the village for enthusiasts and Scalm Wood has a public footpath to the north that is popular for walking. Don't miss Brayton Barff to the south either which is popular with bird watchers and has a number of walks. For family days out, both Lotherton Hall and Cusworth Hall Museum and Park are very close, and Meadowhall is less than an hour away, as are the cities of Leeds, Sheffield and York.

The Fox is the local, award-winning pub and serves both 'Tex Mex' and traditional grub. There is also a local fish and chip shop called Mitchell's Fisheries. In nearby Hamilton, the Owl Hotel is popular and Selby has a number of options with Chinese, Thai, Indian, Italian and more cuisines plus bars and pubs on offer.

HISTORY

A hamlet for many centuries, it was long referred to as Thorp. The Willeby family were the original residents of the manor in the 13th century and being on the primary road to Selby it grew as the locations around it developed. Today, there are around 2,800 people living in Thorpe Willoughby, mainly using this desirable location for its transport links.
