Snaith

With a population of around 4,000 people, Snaith is a town that continues to grow. Boasting quick transport links, five pubs and local schools, it is popular with families. Take your pick from properties that range from bungalows to detached homes to manor houses.

THINGS TO DO

The town has a football club and The Garth next to the Methodist Chapel is frequently used by locals for recreation. South of the M62 is Southfield Reservoir, Pippin Park and a shooting lodge while the River Aire to the north of the town offers walking trails.

Snaith is home to a library, post office, surgery, dentist, pharmacy, opticians, petrol station, off licence, florist and a Co-operative Food. Nearby Selby and Goole have numerous supermarkets and high street chains for bigger shopping trips.

The town is home to Snaith Primary School and The Snaith (secondary) School.

TRANSPORT LINKS

Just 6 miles west of Goole and 7.4 miles south of Selby, Snaith is a town with great transport links. Sitting north of the M62, you can easily get Casteford, Doncaster, Leeds, Hull and York. There is a train station here with connection through Yorkshire and a regular bus service.

HISTORY

Deriving from the Old Scandinavian for 'piece of land cut off', Snaith was recorded as Esneid in the Domesday Book. The town got a market charter in 1223 which meant it could hold a weekly market and there were just 187 householders in 1379. Today, that figure is in the thousands and it has been part of Yorkshire since leaving Humberside in 1996.
