HISTORY
There is evidence of settlement in Riccall before the Roman era and there was a Saxon church on the site of St Mary's by the next settlers. Being near the Ouse and on a raised plateau, it has always been favourable geographically. From 1983 to 2004, Riccall Mine was a major employer in the area and part of Selby Coalfield - today the colliery is a business park.
