HISTORY

Selby was built around a Viking settlement off River Ouse and many of the villages in this area stem from these beginnings. Eggborough has the River Aire to the north and Knottingley and Goole canal is south and was built in the late 18th, early 19th century. The village grew larger thanks to the construction of coal-fired power plant in the 1960s.
