Potential buyers enquiring about homes up 15%

Sellers with houses on the market are benefitting

It’s been the busiest-ever start to the year for the UK housing market, with the number of potential buyers enquiring about homes up 15% on the same time last year.

Sellers who have got their houses on the market are benefitting from this busy time, with buyers moving fast to snap up houses. Competition between buyers is almost double the level it was last January, reports Rightmove.

Become a ‘power buyer’

If you are looking to move, in the current market it’s essential you get yourself in the best possible position to proceed. This means becoming a ‘power buyer’, by making sure your current home is listed for sale, or preferably sold subject to contract, prior to beginning the search for your new home.

Tim Bannister from Rightmove says: "Almost 40% of people enquiring about a home who have a property to sell say that they are yet to list it for sale. In the current market, as you will be competing against other buyers who are able to move more quickly, this is likely to mean you'll miss out on the home you want.”
