In the late 13th century, there are records of coal and iron ore mining before the area was used for farming. It remained a hamlet until wealthy citizens made it their home in the early to mid-1800s. As the area became more developed, the population increase and by the start of the 20th century Roundhay was a growing township. Today, it is a large, sought after location with a professional community.
