HISTORY
First mentioned in around 1150, it was originally a hunting park for the De Lacy family at Pontefract Castle. In the late 13th century, there are records of coal and iron ore mining before the area was used for farming. It remained a hamlet until wealthy citizens made it their home in the early to mid-1800s. As the area became more developed, the population increase and by the start of the 20th century Roundhay was a growing township. Today, it is a large, sought after location with a professional community.
