HISTORY

Recorded in the Doomsday Book as Ernulfestorp - meaning the hamlet of Earnwulf - there have been Roman remains found here. Known for farming, part of the village is still dedicated to agriculture, but the boom of coal mining in Yorkshire saw Armthorpe become known for that. This increased the population and now the majority of residents are commuters that use it as a dormitory village.
